Sclerotherapy as a treatment for varicose veins of the lower Limbs is a technique that has been widely used in clinical practice during the past several years. The lack of good studies in this field explains why there are so many different opinions and points of view concerning the indications, the techniques, and the results of sclerotherapy. Therefore, a Consensus Conference was organized concerning this matter, which took into consideration: the available scientific Literature, the personal experience of the participating experts, and the results of an international questionnaire concerning the practice of sclerotherapy. The results of the Consensus Conference were summarized in a Consensus Paper that outlines: points of agreement, points of disagreement, and points of controversy. The main topics dealt with in this paper are: the consensus process, indications, pretreatment evaluation, techniques, results, training, and recommendations.
