The polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis involving potentially every organ and the disease spectrumranges fromsingle organ to polyvisceral failure; we wanted to focus attention on the disease as a whole without focusing extensively on aspects of single organs. Regarding the familial Mediterranean fever (FMF): patients with FMF are known to have a higher prevalence of vasculitis compared to the overall population, but only 1% of the patients with FMF may have PAN. Hearing loss (HL) is a rare clinical manifestation, but it has emerged in the recent scientific literature and mentioned in many papers describing histo-pathological aspects of the internal ear, so that they have contributed to the understanding of the pathogenesis of PAN.

Abstract
The polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a systemic vasculitis involving potentially every organ and the disease spectrumranges fromsingle organ to polyvisceral failure; we wanted to focus attention on the disease as a whole without focusing extensively on aspects of single organs. Regarding the familial Mediterranean fever (FMF): patients with FMF are known to have a higher prevalence of vasculitis compared to the overall population, but only 1% of the patients with FMF may have PAN. Hearing loss (HL) is a rare clinical manifestation, but it has emerged in the recent scientific literature and mentioned in many papers describing histo-pathological aspects of the internal ear, so that they have contributed to the understanding of the pathogenesis of PAN.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
